Also, while you make an excellent point about Webb, I imagine the Dems would rather gamble on winning the presidency, which is well within their reach, than a veto-proof majority under McCain. This is especially the case given the fact that the GOP will be able to beat them with the stick of hypocrisy, saying that the Dems have done nothing to end the war while a Republican president continues to escalate the thing.
Personally, I think he ought to select John McCain as a running mate. Appeal to his sense of duty. He'll never see it coming.
